Halloween Contest with Huge Prize Pack! Starts 10/15/15 Ends 10/31/15

Image borrowed from Blue Fire Broadband Blog

Happy Halloween, everyone! It's that time of year where the ghouls roam the streets and things go bump in the night! This is one of my favorite holidays. I love the costumes, the fun, and the trick-or-treaters. Parties are being planned, kids are excited about the candy, and houses are decorated with spiderwebs, skeletons, and tombstones. People are busting out the "Thriller" dance moves and zombies are hungry for brains!

To celebrate this festive, frightful season, I am hosting a contest starting today October 15th through the end of the month October 31st. All you have to do to enter to win is to provide me the correct answers to the following scary movie taglines! (PLEASE include a way to reach you, email or Facebook profile link would be preferable).  Each person to answer correctly will be entered into a spreadsheet and a random number generator will be used to choose the numbered row of the winner!

Grand Prize package includes, but is not limited to: a paperback copy of Forgiving Thayne, a paperback copy of Chasing Seth, swag from Rainbow Con 2015 which includes handmade scrabble tile earrings and a necklace or two, several randomly chosen paperbacks of other authors (all M/M romance of course!), a $25 Dreamspinner Press Gift Card, and more! I will try to gather everything this evening to get a picture of most of what I'll be including. It is of course possible for me to include a lot more items than what I'm mentioning or will be in the pictures.

Taglines:

  • 1)  Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid.
  • 2)  In space no one can hear you scream.
  • 3)  When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth.
  • 4)  Take the stairs. Take the stairs. For God’s sake, take the stairs!!!
  • 5)  Scream now, while there’s still room to breathe. Terror has no shape.
  • 6)  Ding Dong, You’re Dead.
  • 7)  Sometimes dead is better.
  • 8)  All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
  • 9)  If this one doesn’t scare you, you’re already dead!
  • 10) Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas.
  • 11)  “He’ll tear your soul apart.”
  • 12)  Evil loves to party.
  • 13)  Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It’s fun to be a vampire.
  • 14)  They’re here.
  • 15)  In space, no one can eat ice cream.
  • 16)  Who will survive and what will be left of them?
  • 17)  It started in May in a small town. And every month after that whenever the moon was full… it came back.
  • 18)  Eight legs, two fangs, and an attitude.
  • 19)  His story will touch you, even though he can't.
  • 20)  Part mystery. Part thriller. Parts missing.

I know this may seem like a lot BUT it's a very large prize pack and I wanted to give a little challenge to it! :)  Happy Halloween, everyone, and good luck to those who choose to accept the challenge!

New Home & Update on Protecting Kai

Good Morning, everyone :)

I have been making great strides (for me anyway!) on my progress with Protecting Kai, the next True Mates novel I am working on. I am about 35% into it and trying to add at least a thousand words a day. I hope to finish it in the next couple of months and then submit it for publication to Dreamspinner. Hopefully have it out by the beginning of next year or so.

To give those wondering what Protecting Kai is about a sneak peek:

Cole Ferris, son of the Alpha of the Emerald Lake Hills pack in California, found and lost his mate all in the same day! He'll do anything to find him again, including following his trail all the way to Phoenix, AZ, where he finds more than he bargained for.

Kai Renard barely managed to escape the dangerous situation he'd been living in since he was thirteen years old. He's been on the run and sees no end in sight. Until the fateful day he bumps into Cole in Redwood City, CA. Two weeks later, during an altercation with strangers, Cole rescues him and offers him the one thing he's wanted for the last nine years, freedom. No more fear, no more pain. But is he strong enough to give Cole what he promises? Only time will tell.

Is that enough of a teaser? LOL. Hopefully, it gives you an idea of what the next True Mates novel is without revealing way more than I wanted. :P

So about a month ago or so I sent an email over to Torquere Press looking for a new home for my two stories that were previously published by the "Publisher Who Shall Not Be Named" and after a few weeks, I received an email with an acceptance from Torquere Press for Swift's Temptation and Fragments of a Unicorn's Soul! Finally! I can finally say I have a permanent home for them right now! I do not have a release date for either with Torquere Press, but I will give you the information as soon as I have it.

And to leave you with a bit of Happy Hump day eye candy!

RainbowCon 2015, Forgiving Thayne, and Protecting Kai

Evening, all my beautiful readers. Wow, I didn't realize how long it truly had been since I posted on here. I am such a slacker! I can only offer the excuse of the evil day job snatching away my time. I am truly sorry about that. I am going to work at posting at least once a week. There has to be something worth posting about once a week. I think.

I attended RainbowCon 2015 in Tampa this year. Once again, a wonderful, amazing time! This time we had a whole lot more readers which was a great thing to see. I even had several requests for signatures! Such a humbling experience to be perfectly honest. Even after all this time I still get nervous about being recognized. Does that ever go away though? I guess if you're someone big time like J.K. Rowling or Stephen King, I suppose. This year the charity supported by RainbowCon was The Big Cat Rescue in Tampa. BEAUTIFUL sanctuary. Gorgeous animals and the wonderful thing to see is how well cared for they are. If you ever visit Tampa, you should definitely see about taking a tour. And even if you aren't, consider donating to such a wonderful sanctuary that cares for these beautiful animals.

What I love about attending events like RainbowCon is that it renews my inspiration. For the first time in a while I have started writing again and I am going to push myself to add at least a thousand words a day. If I can do that, it won't take long at all to get a book done. :) So I hope to have Protecting Kai completed sometime soon. While I don't have a sneak peek for you just yet, I will say that I'm at about 18k words into it, starting on chapter five now.  Protecting Kai is the next installment in the True Mates series centered around Cole Ferris and his runaway mate. Kai is rather... stubborn, lol. To say the least. But he has reason to be which you'll find out once the story is available. I've included a couple of images of what I basically see in my head of Kai and Cole, except Cole is dark auburn haired with bright green eyes. Tried to find an image of a guy with red hair that fit, but there were limited images out there, unfortunately. :(

Kai

Kai Renard, 22 years old, on the run from an abusive family member, and stubborn to a fault. 5' 11". Bright blond hair, hazel eyes, and rather slender to start.

Cole

Cole Ferris, future Alpha to the Emerald Lake Hills Pack, 30 years old. 6' 5", dark auburn hair, and bright green eyes. Kind, fiercely protective of his own, and extremely optimistic with most things in life. Owns and operates Ferris Organics.

Forgiving Thayne is the most recently released True Mates novel. I know a lot of people were angry with Thayne for being such an asshole, but sometimes, a mate isn't perfect. The people in our lives hurt us, but we forgive their trespasses and allow them to continue to be in our lives out of love. While there was a lot still left to resolve between Nick and Thayne, the boys, and those in Chasing Seth, Seth and Kasey, will continue to appear in the coming novels so hopefully those who disliked Thayne will see the growth as he learns to trust and accept the bond between himself and Nick. :)

That's all for tonight, I'm afraid. Want to get in a little bit of writing before going to bed. Good Morning to those just waking up and Good Night to those just going to sleep! Hope your day is well tomorrow/today!

Where has J.R. Been... & New Story Available!

Happy Holidays, everyone. Sorry I haven't really been around much lately. The holidays don't always sit well with me. It's been a few years where I have been able to enjoy them. I tend to go into a hole in the ground and hibernate like a bear for a month or so and not really interact with people. I don't really know if it's a whole lonely factor or if it's something more. Anyway, I'm still alive. Been dealing with some back pain and sitting for long periods of time is difficult as well. I hope all of you enjoyed your Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, and every holiday celebrated at this time of year! :)

First, an update on current WIPs. I have not really had much chance to write lately so I'm sadly lacking in much to relay to you because of doctor's visits, back pain, and a few other things that have come up. I do have a New Year's resolution that NO MATTER WHAT I am going to make a plan and stick to it. I am going to dedicate four nights a week to writing. I have to get back into the groove of things. For you and for myself.

I also have good news for those who do read my blog and are interested in reading new stories by me! :) Cool Beans publishing has not only re-released my book Swift's Temptation but they have also released a new, never been read short Christmas story called Blue Christmas in their Winter Blend Anthology. It's available at Amazon right now, but also at B&N and should be available at ARe and Smashwords soon if they are not already. It is actually longer than a short story, it's about 25k words so it's almost the length of a novella!

My projects for 2015 include Protecting Kai (True Mates 3) and the sequel to Touch Me Gently. I could really use the encouragement to keep me motivated and on the road to getting those out there for you! Please don't forget about me! I know I don't put out stories as quickly as others, but I promise I am still here. :)

I know you've all been waiting a long time for this one and I truly hope you enjoy it and that I did Nick and Thayne's story justice. They're definitely one of my favorite couples to date aside from Kaden and Logan. :)

I think if I can stir up emotions in my readers - sadness, happiness, or anger - that's what it is all about. Thayne can be a stubborn jackass, but I still find him to be someone that is worth getting to know and eventually will make you proud of him. I read an early review already where someone related Nick to being a doormat and I'm not entirely sure I agree or disagree. As part of most shifter worlds, when a shifter finds their mate, it's rather hard not to allow themselves to bend over backwards to please them, help them, or protect them. Nick's inner wolf is very much in control throughout most of Nick's actions within the story. But in defense of Nick's 'doormatness', I've read many shifter stories where one is always more dominant than the other and allows themselves to be walked all over. In fact, there was one I tried so hard to read a few months back that I couldn't even stomach to finish. I think Nick did a relatively good job at standing up for himself as much as he could while fighting his wolf's instincts to run to Thayne at every turn.

I also hope that most of the readers agree there is a definite improvement in my 'feminizing' one of the men in the story as that has been one of the wider spread points I've seen in the reviews on Touch Me Gently and Chasing Seth. Though, I will say that coming from a Yaoi fan base, that's how I've seen a lot of the stories written within the Yaoi environment. Not all, no, but more often than not, one is more feminine than the other.

I will be continuing the True Mates world with Cole's story and have already begun writing the next one. :) If you don't know who Cole is, then you'll need to read Thayne and Nick's story first. :P

Well, that's all for now! Have a wonderful day, everyone!!!

Kisses,
JR
